Melon, or cantaloupe, if you prefer, is one of my favorite fruits, and fortunately for me, in South Louisiana, we can get them earlier than most of the country. The salmon color in this painting makes for a great contrast against the blue cup and the steel knife.
The reason I chose to do this scene for this still-life oil painting was mainly the interesting composition. It has a nice flow.
What’s funny is that only after painting the pitcher did I realize how distinct the melon reflected on the surface. Oh well, when you’re in the zone, you just paint what you see!
